What is Negishio Tare?

Negishio Tare (ネギ塩タレ) is a Japanese sauce made primarily from finely chopped green onions, salt, and a few other ingredients such as sesame oil, garlic, and sometimes lemon juice. This sauce is often used as a topping or seasoning for grilled meats, especially yakiniku (Japanese BBQ), and is known for its savory, zesty flavor profile that enhances the taste of dishes without overpowering them.

The Ingredients

The beauty of Negishio Tare lies in its simplicity. The core ingredients include:

  • Negi (Green onions): Finely chopped to release their fresh, mild flavor.
  • Shio (Salt): Adds a savory foundation to balance the sweetness of the onions.
  • Sesame oil: Adds a rich, nutty aroma and enhances the overall flavor.
  • Garlic: Offers a subtle kick and depth.
  • Lemon juice (optional): For a refreshing, tangy twist.
